Working Hard to Protect Mount Rainier

Though the county sent crews back to Bunker Hill station 55 in late December, Danielle knew that the problem had not been solved with countywide staffing. With volunteer numbers dropping drastically and career staff starting each shift with 25 less staff than they need, she knows there is no guarantee that the staff reduction Mount Rainier saw last summer wont happen again unless the county commits to start staffing improvements immediately. With that in mind, she and former Vice Mayor for Brentwood, Stefan Leggin, started to reach out to other municipalities to garner support to take advantage of the upcoming County Executive race to make the Fire/EMS staffing crisis one of, if not the main topic of the campaign and as a result, formed "the Coalition". Elected municipal officials, volunteer fire/EMS members, and county staff met on a few occasions to compile a list of recommendations for the new County Executive to help start the healing for the PG County Fire/EMS Services both career and volunteer. Danielle and Stefan met with many elected officials, made presentations and spoke at numerous municipal council meetings, met with the Board of the PGCFRA, various PG County Volunteers, and many individual residents to gain support for the effort. To date, the coalition represents over 100,000 Prince Georgians with 8 municipalities having signed on along with numerous individual elected officials and the Prince George's County Fire and Rescue Association. The list that was compiled has been sent to every candidate for County Executive with only two having responded to the full list so far. *The coalition is NOT, and will not endorse any individual candidate.
